Grammys 2014

So the Grammys have come and gone and as I have yet to see the red carpet offerings I decided to give a few predictions before delving in. When it comes to styling, the Grammys RC has always been a bit more risqué than the others, though I think we have Rhianna to blame for there being any dress code at all.

So I reckon Lorde will look odd but quirky-cool, Katy Perry will look odd but beautiful-cool and if Lady Gaga arrives the only way she’ll surprise us now is if she turns up physically inside-out and skips down the red carpet using her lower intestines as a rope.
Let’s see shall we?

Sara Bariellis - Blumarine I actually like this, I’m feeling the red accessories and she looks comfortable, plus her hair was nuttso!

Best Dressed Christine Teigen – Johanna Johnson this is just flawless, only a model’s body could look this good in that unforgiving a dress!
Queen B: Great dress, hugs all the right bodyparts but the hair seemed a little flat.  While I'm sure the roots were like that by design they do need a touch-up, girl can strike a pose though right?

Anna Kendrick – Azzaro. Beautiful face and hair, but the dress and shoes left me a little underwhelmed, thought it looked a bit like a cheap prom dress (sorry Loz, do I still get my cake?)

Alica Keyes - Giorgio Armani. Being a bit of a pear-shape myself I think I can say this is not a ‘pear shaped girl's best friend’, the Jedward hair didn’t help either,  the vibe all gets a little "thin at the top getting chunkier as we go down". Flattering it aint!

Worst Dressed Madonna - Ralph Lauren, I get that he’s ‘your’ kid but a small coloured child as prop is too  close to the Michael Jackson school of accessories if you ask me.  The hat was more Amish farmer than chic, the trousers need tailoring and her face was so bloated it looked like she's been sucking down salted lollipops all day.  Also she's a fifty year old white woman so no grills, seriously NO GRILLS!  David looked great though, love the shoes.

Katy Perry – Valentino, love it, OTT without being too attention seeking and her face and body are flawless!

Daft Punk – best shoes by far!

Taylor Swift – Gucci, perfectly fitted, am a bit bored of the sparkly dress parade, but there's no denying how good she looks here.  Plus hanging out with Jen Lawrence is having a good effect on her sense of humour.

Jared Leto, erm yeah no idea what he’s wearing as I spent too much time looking into those eyes.  There was some red, it was very rock and roll. (Good Lord but he's pretty!)

Lorde – OK she's just going through that 17-yr-old Goth, unsure what looks good on me phase, we all did we just don’t have this much evidence of our mistakes.  If she’s comfortable then good for her (#ETTO) but I’m hoping she gets a stylist/different stylist soon as I know she could look phenomenal!

Pharrell Williams  Look, the guy makes so many cool tunes, even I've downloaded the last three of his singles so he can wear any kind of stupid-arse hat he wants to as long as he keeps doing what he does so well.

Rhianna  Alexandre Vauthier – I didn’t see her at the grammys RC but I found this pre-grammy Gala look which was almost "amazing/a little hoochy-mama I forgot my bra again".  Killer colour though!

So there you have it, No Gaga that I could see but a mass wedding officiated by Queen Latifa which is something you know she'd have been all up for.  I'm surprised she didn't pop up wearing the wedding cake though, maybe next year.

SAG Awards 2014

Another day another red carpet and yesterday was the turn of the SAG awards, where actors and actresses slap each other on the back and tell themselves how great they are while we silently judge in the comfort of our homes.  As ever I’ll forgo that silence in favour of publishing my rambling thoughts here for you guys to agree, disagree or correct my grammar on.

Natalie Dormer - Marios Schwab

Only got a glimpse of this as the E! red carpet closed but I gotta say I loved  that she went a bit out there.  Sure close up its a little a futuristic cancer victim chic, but the overall effect was daring and unique and I loved it.

Julie Bowen - Carolina Herrera

You go to an award ceremony that's live to millions of people and you chose this? Loved her earrings but the dress was like something they’d thrown out in the 70’s cos it was too ugly, which is quite some feat from the decade that embraced polyester.

Julia Roberts - Valentino

This may not look all that risqué but once you know that this ‘dress’ is a jump suit it takes on another vibe and one I really quite approve of as she looks so comfy.   One of the moments of the night has to be when Giuliana Rancic tried to get Julia back onto the subject of fashion after a bunch of fans almost got squished from a rail falling over:
Giuliana: That looked bad, but onto more important things, your dress
Julia: More important than human life indeed   Gotta love that girl!

Lupita Nyong - Gucci

To have that flawless skin! And the colour of the dress against it was so beautiful, this girl has not put a foot wrong on all – or both red carpets she’s graced yet.  I’m so looking forward to what she’ll wear to the Oscars, more capes please Lulu!

Amy Adams - Antonio Berardi

Hoorah no boobige on show!  Love the cut outs, the colour and the old Hollywood glamour, from the live interview I saw, it also looks like she won’t have any surgery to take away a few lines around the eyes and for this I very much applaud her.

Claire Danes - Vionnet

A little darker, chicer and all out fabulous for Danes this RC. The tulle neckline and panel front was perfect on her and the accessory of husband Hugh Dancy wasn’t too hard to look at either

Cate Blanchett - Givenchy

Yeah I’ve obviously missed something here cos that sparkly bib look I just don’t get.   The colour wasn’t my favourite either but as she’ll definitely be around for the Oscars she gets another chance to impress me, which is something I hear she’s going all out for.

Jennifer Lawrence - Dior

So I get the Dior have thrown a bucket load of cash at her but is there any chance we’ll see her in anything but their dresses ever again? No matter, she looked lovely and the dress was nice enough, if a little dull.  She still has my heart as when Giuilana was trying to get her to concentrate on her dress Jen was still wittering on about having armpit vaginas.  It makes me smile that this girl is in Hollywood right now.

Kerry Washington - Prada

I don’t…  I can’t….why’d she?  uhhh…. Let’s just move on shall we?

Sandra Bullock - Lanvin

Oh God am I actually doing this?  After the Golden Globes when I wouldn’t hear anyone slagging off Sandy?  Deep breath, I LOVE this woman and all that she stands for and the dress she wore to the Critics’ Choice was so lovely.  This??? This was something she must have picked up from the rubbish tip outside the old Dynasty set. Her hair and make-up were perfect as usual but the dress? Just no.

#ETTO. Sharp Dressed men included Jared Leto, blatantly flirting with Emilia Clarke from Game of Thrones (so jealous of her now!) Aaron Paul (great shoes beeeaatch!) and Kit Harrington from GOT again.  I just wish he had kept his messy hair, so much sexier!

I’m not doing best and worst this time, cos my worst is Sandy and I. Just. Can't!

Golden Globes 2014 - yays and nays

Ahhh 2014, the year of not being such a bitch to everyone.  This year, as well as the usual judgey-judgerson type of red carpet blogs, I’ll be injecting a little hashtag of my own making #ETTO Each To Their Own.  Don’t worry I’ll still be noting if some stars are offending me with their style/stylist’s choices but with a side dish of sweetness.  Cos apparently not everyone wants to look the way I think they should (ooh look at me I’m growing!)

Amy Adams, Valentino – One who obviously enjoyed her bra-less workout in American Hustle (approx. 38 outfits and not one supported boob in sight).  I suspect it’s not a look that many will want to copy but I reckon she may be the only woman at the globes that got home and didn’t have red marks all over her body from under wiring or corset lines.

Emma Watson - Dior Couture.  You think it’s all nice but safe and then BAM its trousers AND a dress (outrageous huh? *please note heavy sarcasm*).  Lovely change and the hair and shoes were casually chic without being out of place.  Good Brit, well done.

Sandra Bullock - Prabal Gurungs.  Getting a little more stick for this choice, whether you like or loath it, her face and hair are lovely and I’ll hear no bad words said against my Sandy, naa-ahh zip it!

There were a few trends…

Alarming 80’s Hair Don’ts

1 of 3.  Jessica Chastain - Givenchy.  If you have a generously sized forehead don’t make it worse by bouffanting your hair, it’s all we end up looking at instead of your pretty face and well cut dress.
2 of 3 Amber Heard -Atelier Versace.  Oy-vey, can barely even see the dress for this fro (and she looks a little wasted here, no?)

3 of 3 Hayden Panettiere - Tom Ford.  Rounding up a sorry trilogy, a nice enough dress badly tailored and topped off with a slicked back bouf to boot.

Pregged up!

Kerry Washington – Balenciaga.  While I still don’t understand what this woman has done to be famous (obviously went to the Jessica Alba school of Becoming an A List Celeb), this is the best I have seen her.  Apparently the gown is pale green (news to me) but this is definitely up the duff style deliciousness.

Olivia Wilde - Gucci Premiere.  Even with a proper bump she still outclassed half the other girls there.  This looks like the dress Angelina Jolie wore to the Globes in 2011, only ya’know, good and without a bag of bones inside it.

Drew Barrymore - Monique Lhuillier.  Kinda busy and a bit too much for me but she’s obviously happy and comfortable which with a bump as big as hers is, I imagine, is a miracle in itself.  #ETTO.  I’d probably still be in my jogging bottoms on the sofa if I were that pregnant, props for getting out at all.

Love this!
Lupita Nyong’o - Ralph Lauren. So yes she’s a model and can make anything look amazeballs but the draping/caping (whatever you want to call it) means she totally knocked this one out of the park.  BEST DRESSED

Lena Dunham - Zac Posen.  Bless her cotton socks.  She obviously just doesn’t care what anyone thinks (I mean look at her, she can’t can she?) and I love the confidence she surely has to wear this and not mind the numerous looks she must have received.  It’s truly terrible but hey Lena, don’t ever change, am starting to admire your get-up gumption!

Bérénice Bejo - Giambattista Valli Couture. Might have looked better in the flesh but in pictures with all those odd all embellishments, waaaay to busy.  The Gypsy earrings and tight up-do did not help this look, its all a bit too shrunken headed voodoo doll pom-pom dress for me. #ETTO. WORST DRESSED

Michelle Dockery - Oscar de la Renta.  Pretty, yes very pretty but not much more than that, a little safe Chelly.

Kaley Cuoco - Rani Zakhem Couture.  This dress seems to have split the blogging pack but I am leaning towards fabulous rather than farcical.  Sure it’s a little out there but at least it’s different, and her eyes and smile say ‘Judge away people, I look brillimerant’ and so she does.

What was your best and worst?
